Advanced Craniosacral Therapy: Working with the Alarm Systems (CS17 – 17ALAR08)

August 4, 2017 @ 9:00 am - August 7, 2017 @ 6:00 pm

Survival is the ultimate focus of our body’s systems in order for us to fulfill our life’s purpose and guarantee procreation/evolution. The heightened state of fight or flight causes the ‘stress cascade’. Understanding the brain as an electric system and understanding the nuclei that are involved with the stress cascade gives us the opportunity to release their static electricity – also known as trauma. Friday August 4 through Monday Aug 7, 2017 Time: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Instructor: Etienne Piersman. (29 CEUs, PDAs, CMEs)

Prerequisite:  42 hours of Craniosacral training and/or instructor permission.

Please Wear:  Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (no jeans).

Please Bring:  A pillow, blanket, camping pad (or extra blanket) for additional table padding, and small pillow or foam pad for elbow support.

Description: Focusing on the stress cascade and its nuclei is a totally new way of releasing trauma without having to know how the trauma originally occurred. Explore the brain as an electric system and how we store unresolved trauma in its nuclei. Understanding these nuclei and their connections leads to finding their exact location and this gives us the opportunity to release their ‘stuck energy,’ thereby emptying their unresolved past experiences.

Explore the role of the reticular alarm system and how we can lower its threshold.

You will also review the parasympathetic nervous system and its hormones, and how to release/unfreeze it when it is stuck. The course includes lecture, instructor demonstration, and plenty of hands-on practice.

Upon completion of the seminar you will be able to:

  • Perform the technique to release held energy to clear out the sympathetic ganglia.
  • Describe the brain and its nuclei as an electric system.
  • Describe how the nuclei is involved in the stress cascade.
  • Define the difference between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems and their influence on the workings of the brain and nervous system.
  • Locate the involved nuclei of the stress cascade and releasing them (i.e., thalamus, amygdala, pre-frontal cortex, hypothalamus, infundibulum, pituitary, adrenal glands and locus ceruleus).
  • Locate and release the RAS (Reticular Alarm System).
  • Locate and release the nuclei for the endorphin (periaquaductal grey) and serotonin (raphe nuclei).
  • Verbally explore with a client the personal story that wasn’t able to be released via static-electricity techniques.

Etienne Peirsman, MM, is a biology and physical education teacher who has been involved with emotional training, encounter work, primal healing and meditation since 1974. He began teaching craniosacral (CS) in 1991, and founded several CS institutes in Belgium and the Netherlands. He is the founder and director of PCSA (Peirsman Cranio Sacral Academy) in the Netherlands. He is also the originator of the Cranio Sacral Professional Organization in Holland which began as a result of his students becoming professionals. As a result, he has a grandfather status in that organization and is an honorary member of the professional organization: The Dutch Cranio Sacral Practitioner Association (NCSV). Additionally, he has taught CS at the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts since 2008. See Etienne’s full program on: www.craniomasters.com

Etienne is the author of the book Craniosacral Therapy for Babies and Small Children, published by North Atlantic Books in 2006. His work encompasses the evolution from a bio-mechanical (Upledger) to a bio-dynamic approach (Sutherland/Sills). His specialty is the expression of the Heart, the long tide and their connection to meditation and enlightenment. He has said “Drop the word therapy. It is not part of who and what we are. Face it, you are perfect and your heart is perfect”.
