Given the limitations of influenza vaccines, such as decreased effectiveness due to poorly matched strains, low vaccine availability, and difficulty producing vaccines rapidly in response to newly emergent viruses, it is necessary to look beyond vaccines and devote more research to alternative means of supporting the body’s natural defenses.
