APR - Hashimotos Thyroiditis

Considering that Hashimoto’s thyroiditis has been linked to malabsorption and celiac disease, patients should be counseled to avoid gluten.

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) is the leading cause of hypothyroidism in the United States.1 It is one of the most common organ-specific autoimmune disorders of the thyroid, among Graves’ disease, trophic thyroiditis, primary myxedema, and postpartum thyroiditis. HT has characteristic features of lymphocytic infiltration along with the presence of serum anti-thyroperoxidase antibody (TPOAb) and/or anti-thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb).
