First-Round Recipients at AANP DC FLI

 In Press Release

There was an atmosphere of celebration this year at the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) DC FLI (Federal Legislative Initiative) held on May 5-7, 2012. In addition to celebrating the legislative achievement of inclusion of Naturopathic Doctors in the Indian Health Services Act, participants also honored four naturopathic nonprofit organizations and their work in support of the profession.

Emerson Ecologics presented the following recipients with the first round of grants from the new Emerson Grant Program to help support their organization’s objectives for the upcoming year.

  • NY Association of Naturopathic Physicians: $500 awarded to support their 2012 Lobby Day (May 8, 2012)
  • Michigan Association of Naturopathic Physicians: $2,500 awarded for creation of a website for the organization, providing both a member resource, as well as an opportunity to educate the public about naturopathic medicine in the state
  • Naturopathic Physicians’ Research Institute: $6,000 awarded to fund a Whole Practice Outcomes research study to evaluate the efficacy of naturopathic medicine in the way it is practiced, rather than specific, single therapeutic treatment for a specific condition. This information will be essential to support education in the public and business sector, in addition to being fundamental to any legislative effort.
  • Maryland Association of Naturopathic Physicians: $7,000 awarded to fund the association’s 2012-2013 licensure effort

“Reviewing the grant applications, we were overwhelmed with the quantity and quality of the work being done throughout the country by volunteers on behalf of naturopathic medicine,” said Jaclyn Chasse, ND, Manager of Educational Programs and Professional Services at Emerson Ecologics. “It was not an easy decision, but we’re so thrilled to award these deserving recipients. Emerson has always been committed to naturopathic medicine and we hope this new grant program continues to provide meaningful support to these groups.”

The Emerson Grant Program will award a total of $25,000 in 2012 to support nonprofit organizations run by and benefiting naturopathic physicians; the next grant application deadline is August 15, 2012.
