-Katie Strobe: Bastyr University Class of 2014
Area of focus: research, oncology and botanical medicine

Katie Strobe is a fifth-year ND student at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. She has a strong passion for healing and discovery.

Katie earned a BS in zoology and chemistry at the University of Washington. Her excitement for research was ignited while working as a student researcher in the Aderem Lab. Upon graduation, she was offered a research associate position at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, WA. Her research focused primarily on Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and infectious disease. Katie co-wrote an article related to this work that was published in the journal Nature Immunology.

Although she thoroughly enjoyed the academic and collaborative environment of the lab, Katie sought a more personal interaction between patient and physician and enrolled in the ND program at Bastyr in 2009. Seeing the need for naturopathic research, Katie has tied together her passion for immunology and natural medicine and is currently researching the cancer-fighting properties of the turkey tail mushroom.

Upon graduation, Katie would like to work as a practicing naturopathic clinician and academic researcher. She is interested in specializing in oncology and geriatrics.
