Pharmacology in Primary Care Part 3 Herb, Nutrient and Drug Interactions in the Middle Aged and Beyond: Methods, Tactics and Therapeutic Strategies

NCNM is pleased to announce the continuation of an ongoing lecture series, Pharmacology in Primary Care. The third of many lectures in this series will be presented by Dr Lori Stargrove and Dr Mitch Stargrove, both practicing naturopathic physicians, and graduates from NCNM and OCOM for their acupuncture degree, for many years in Beaverton, Oregon. Dr Mitch Stargrove is the editor and co-author of Herb, Nutrient, and Drug Interactions: Clinical Implications and Therapeutic Strategies (MosbyElsevier 2008). He coordinated development of, and compiled the acupuncture section for, the Integrative BodyMind Information System (IBIS), the pioneering multidisciplinary electronic encyclopedia for practitioners of integrative medicine and natural therapeutics, and is Editor in Chief of InteractionsGuide and ChoicesForHealth. Dr Lori Stargrove is the Project Facilitator for the Herb, Nutrient and Drug Interactions Clinical Implications and Therapeutics Textbook.
The NCNM pharmacology series is designed to be both a review and an update of drugs that are used in a primary care setting. These lectures are directed toward physicians, physician assistants, nurses and medical assistants. The goal of this activity is to provide the most recent information on available resources for proper balance of drug, nutrient and herb interactions in older population of patients.
Special attention will be given to evaluating interactions in terms of severity, influence, type and action. Areas of focus will be mood, memory, cardiovascular health, digestion and lessons in Polypharmacy. Discussion on timing, sequencing and strategy with challenges of collaboration.
