SUMMARY:A Therapeutic Yoga Approach to Addressing Scoliosis (YOGA - 15SCOL01)
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleConfounded by how to ease the chronic discomfort of scoliosis\, either for yourself or for your clients? Scoliosis is a complex condition that can create a variety of physical symptoms from mild discomfort to debilitating pain and organ dysfunction. Come and learn how therapeutic yoga can address the muscular asymmetries caused by spinal curvature through active and passive postural work\, specific breathing practices to help de-rotate the spine\, and how to help yourself or your clients live and rest more comfortably in their bodies. Sun\, Jan 24\, 10 a.m-5 p.m. Instructor: Robin Rothenberg. (5.5 CEUs\, PDAs)\n\nDescription: While most of us have mild asymmetries right side to left\, those living with scoliosis have a three dimensional asymmetry that can put additional strain on the lungs and internal organs. Breathing and digestion can be inhibited and movement through life painful. The jigsaw puzzle of scoliosis often presents a challenge for yoga teachers and other bodywork and movement professionals. \nThis workshop is designed as a teaching clinic for both practitioners and those living with scoliosis to encourage all to see outside the box of traditional asana. We’ll customize practices to address each quadrant of the spine appropriately: rt/left thoracic; rt/left lumbar. Utilizing an array of tools and most importantly a way of understanding the particular structural needs of those living with moderate to severe scoliosis\, this course offers a means to bring balance and relief to areas of chronic tension and pain to those suffering with curvature of the spine. \nPlease identify whether you have scoliosis when registering for the course. \nUpon completion of the seminar you will be able to: \n\nIdentify and define the difference between structural and functional scoliosis.\nLearn how to see scoliosis and interpret the spinal curvature from a muscular perspective.\nDevelop adaptations of asanas that specifically stretch or strengthen each of the four quadrants of the spinal musculature appropriately.\nLearn to utilize rotational breathing to increase awareness and diminish spinal torsion.\nLearn how to prop yourself or your client to ensure greater ease when resting.\n\nPlease bring: Yoga mat\, large towel or blanket\, and comfortable clothes for movement. Personal water bottle (filtered water dispensers available on campus to refill). \nLocation: Bastyr University Kenmore Campus\, room #146. Bastyr University is housed in an older facility with fluctuating interior temperatures; it is advisable to wear layers. Also\, Bastyr is a “fragrance-free” campus. \nEligible for 5.5 CEUs\, PDAs\, and CMEs for the following professions: \nND (except those licensed in CA)\nEligibility Pending: ND (licensed in OR)\nMD & PA – Category II CMEs (those licensed in WA)\nARNP & RN (licensed in WA)\nEligibility Pending: LAc – NCCAOM PDAs\nLMP (licensed in WA)\nEligibility Pending – Reflexologist – ARCB CE\nPT & OT (licensed in WA)\nDC (licensed in WA) \nRobin Rothenberg Certified Yoga Therapist \nRobin Rothenberg is an internationally respected yoga therapist\, and director of Essential Yoga Therapy\, running an IAYT Accredited Yoga Therapist Training program and RYS-500. SUMMARY:Pharmacy Series with Miki Finnin\, Pharm. D.\, BCPS\, CGP
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleWe are inviting you to join us for a 2-day online pharmacy series with Dr. Miki Finnin. \nReturning to Medicine Talk Pro by popular demand\, Dr. Miki Finnin will present for 8 hrs of Rx CE on topics very relevant to what we encounter every day in practice. \nWhy do we love her so much? Because she is extremely familiar with Naturopathic Medicine and Doctors. As a Doctor of Pharmacy and a patient of Naturopathic Medicine\, she has a unique perspective that makes the information she delivers applicable in practice. Read below for details about each topic. \nWe are applying for AANP CE approval as well as through the Canada Associations. As of now this CE is pending but because of her qualifications\, Dr. Finnin’s material has always been approved. \nSession 1 – Dec. 5th\, 2015 @ 9-11 AM CST \nGuideline Review: Immunizations\, Hypertension\, HyperLipidemia \nMedical treatment guidelines are developed to present the compilation of data to allopathic medical practitioners so that disease states may be treated according to evidence-based medicine. The challenge\, however\, is to stay current with the ever-changing guidelines\, ever-changing new medications being allowed on the market and staying on top of recommendations that physicians are giving to their patients that do not necessarily follow the current guidelines. This presentation will focus on the new recommendations for the pneumococcal vaccine and why physicians are telling their patients that they need a booster every 5 years. It will also address the current issues with the flu vaccine\, the changes in the hypertension guidelines especially as they relate to the elderly population\, and a review of the major changes in blood cholesterol treatment guidelines as they abandon the long-time LDL goals. \nSession 2 – Dec. 5th\, 2015 @ 11AM – 1PM CST \nChronic Pain \nAppropriate treatment of chronic pain continues to be an issue in our healthcare systems. Our prescribing history has gone from periods of under treatment to more appropriate treatment with long-acting opioid analgesics\, and now possibly back to under-treatment because of prescriber fear of legal ramifications due to over-prescribing. This presentation will focus on the pharmacologic alternatives in the treatment of chronic pain and the appropriate step-wise approach of prescribing\, monitoring and removing agents as appropriate. \nSession 3 – Dec. 6th\, 2015 @ 9-11 AM CST \nPrescription Drugs of Abuse \nMind altering substances have been a problem in our society for hundreds of years\, even dating back to 4\,000 BS with the use of the Papaver somniferum plant for its ability to relieve pain. In our current society\, drug abuse continues to be a national problem\, not only focusing on illegal substances\, but also on legal prescription medications that are dispensed at a local pharmacy. This presentation will focus on the history of substance abuse\, the local and national efforts being taken to combat this issue\, the everyday factors that are contributing to this problem\, a review of the medications that are most commonly used for their mind-altering properties and the medications used to assist in weaning off the addiction\, and most importantly\, the guidelines for responsible opioid prescribing. Although as Naturopathic Doctors or Holistic Physicians or caregivers you may not be prescribing these medications\, it is important to understand the issues behind this epidemic so that hopefully you can identify a patient that presents with a condition of abuse and be able to assist them in their journey back to health. \nSession 4 – Dec. 6th\, 2015 @ 11AM – 1PM CST \nThe Pharmacologic Treatment of Sleep Disorders \nSleep disorders are many\, and in a large portion of this population\, can be caused by multiple etiologies\, sometimes confusing the diagnosis and respective treatment plans. This presentation will focus on a number of different sleep disorders\, their root causes\, the effect of sleep deprivation on the patient and the alternatives used for pharmacologic treatment. Because of the audience of Naturopathic Physicians and holistic practitioners\, this presentation will also address the key issues to consider when suggesting to your patient to remove these pharmacologic agents from their sleep regimen in a safe and non-harmful step-wise approach. \nDec 5-6\, 2015 @ 11 AM – 1PM CST | Cost: $175 | Webinar | Instructor: Dr. Miki Finnin \n8.0 hours Rx. SUMMARY:Infectious Disease without Antibiotics or Vaccination with James Sensenig\, ND
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleWe’re inviting you to join us for an amazing Continuing Education teleseminar with a very popular speaker – James Sensenig\, ND! \nEver since Louis Pasteur’s “discovery of germs”\, the conventional medical system and it’s allied businesses and agencies have fostered the idea that “germs” cause disease. But do they really CAUSE disease. This is not simply an academic question. We now live at a time when people and doctors live in fear of bacteria and viruses. This assumption of cause drives much of our medical system and is the basis for the use of both antibiotics and vaccination. Is there another way to understand the relationship between microbes and disease? Do we really need antibiotics and vaccinations? \nNovember 19\, 2015\, 2PM – 4PM CST | Cost $25 | Teleseminar | Instructor: Dr. James Sensenig \n2.0 hours general CE (OBNM) \nTO REGISTER – please fill out this form: https://rx216.infusionsoft.com/app/manageCart/processBundle?productId=184&productQuantity=1&styleThemeId=126 \nShare This Article
