SUMMARY:Versatile Leadership: A Tool for All Seasons (and Positions)
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleThe TrainHR webinar is approved by HRCI and SHRM Recertification Provider \nOverview: This webinar will explore the application of a straight-forward\, powerful approach to leadership. The starting premise is that different people and differing situations require different approaches on the part of the leader or supervisor. This prevents the “one size fits all” approach that often results in lack of leadership (laissez-faire) or too heavy-handed an approach (micro-managing).\nWe will start by examining how we have historically looked at leadership and why very little of practical use has emerged from centuries of inquiry. From there we will see how versatile leadership filled an important gap in our understanding and practice. \nWe will then examine the model and the tools available to the leader. From there we will explore our own preferred leadership approach and understand when it is appropriate and when it is not. \nFinally\, we will explore a variety of scenarios and employees to see how the model might be applied in real-life situations. This will then provide participants with the tools to translate the theory into real-world effective leadership practices designed to motivate employees and ensure job success. \nWhy should you Attend: Supervision is a delicate balance between too little (laissez-faire) and too much (micro-managing). We also realize that different situations and different employees require different approaches. The key is to use the right approach with the appropriate person in the correct situation. \nVersatile leadership is the simple\, readily understandable tool which will help supervisors effectively manage and assist employees in “being all they can be” – maximizing their motivation and contributions to the parent organization. \nThe webinar will present the versatile leadership model and demonstrate its applicability in a wide variety of employment situations. We will start by examining our own preferred leadership style and demonstrate the consequences of overusing one style and neglecting others. From that point we will explore the relationship between the employee and situation to see how it should influence our leadership approach. \nFinally\, we will have an opportunity to apply the model to a series of real-life situations to maximize the probability of a successful outcome and an appropriately supervised\, competent employee. \nAreas Covered in the Session: \nThe history of studying leadership\nA look at Millennials\nWhat makes an effective leader – various perspectives\nData from 360° feedback\nThe versatile leadership models\nThe relationship between situation and leadership\nFinding the right tool\nWhat to do if results aren’t up to par\nPractice situation \nWho Will Benefit: \nHR Generalists\nHR Managers\nSupervisors and Managers\nTeam Leaders\nLine Managers\nBusiness Owners \nInstructor:\nHarold P Brull served as Senior Vice-President of Personnel Decisions International (PDI)\, now Korn Ferry Leadership Consulting\, for 36 years. During his tenure he has designed selection processes and systems for over 1\,000 organizations ranging from ford Motor Company to the Peace Corps. Harry is a licensed psychologist and has taught industrial/organizational psychology at the undergraduate and graduate levels for 17 years. He has served as an expert witness in employment law cases in both state and federal court\, representing both private and public-sector clients. \nShare This Article

SUMMARY:Succession Planning: It's Not Just for Emergencies - It's a Leadership Development Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleThe TrainHR webinar is approved by HRCI and SHRM Recertification Provider \nOverview: In the early morning hours of September 11\,the world watched in horror as commercial jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center twin towers and the Pentagon. In the midst of this national disaster\, several organizations had to face the reality that they had lost\, on the planes or in the buildings\, key talent and brainpower. They immediately had to identify people and competencies to replace those who were no longer there. There’s no way to plan for a disaster of the magnitude of the World Trade Center attacks. But\, there are specific actions an organization can take to ensure it has the leadership it needs in case of a crisis\, as well as\, for their future sustainability.Best-practice organizations use succession planning to not only prepare for potential leadership challenges but they also rely on such plans to develop and maintain the strong leadership that’s required to grow and keep pace with changes in their business\, industry\, and overall marketplace.\nThe heart of succession planning is identifying and building your future leadership at all levels. Through your succession planning process\, you recruit superior employees\, develop their knowledge\, skills\, and abilities\, and prepare them for advancement into ever more challenging roles. This will guarantee that you have a strong leadership bench on hand and ready to fill new or vacated roles. How effectively are you developing your organization’s future leaders? \nWhy should you Attend: Succession planning isn’t just naming the new CEO. In fact\, it’s not about putting a name behind a title at all. That’s called replacement planning. And when it is only used during times of crisis – when a company has to name somebody to fill a vacant role quickly – that’s not succession planning either. That’s crisis management. The goal of succession planning is to continuously identify and develop high-performing leaders capable of meeting the present and future needs of the organization. It should include a formal identification process supported by leadership development that builds leadership capacity within the organization. Organizations are only as strong as their leaders. High performing organizations make leadership development\, at all levels\, a top priority. So how does your organization shape up? Which of the top best practices from high performance companies are being used in your organization to develop leaders? Which of these practices should you consider adopting to develop your future leaders? Succession planning will continue to become more integrated into the everyday life of organizations\, moving from a formal ‘annual event’to become a part of the daily fabric of doing business. This webinar will cover these key areas for effective succession planning \nHow to identify your potential leaders who can assume greater responsibility in the organization\nThe variety and impact of various development experiences to those that can move into key roles\nHow to engage the leadership in supporting the development of high-potential leaders \nAreas Covered in the Session: \nDiscover the Seven Deadly Sins of Succession Planning What not to do\nExamine the Pros and Cons of Insiders vs Outsiders to fill specific positions Which is better?\nUnderstand the 70-20-10 rule for Developing your Future Leaders What it is and how to use it\nIdentify the 10 best Practices that High Performing organizations use for Grooming Outstanding Leaders\nReview the 5 steps that must be followed to build a culture that Supports Development from the top down\nUtilize the Center for Creative Leadership’s 3 key elements for successful leadership development Assessment – Challenge -Support\nRecognize a variety of learning and on the job opportunities for professionals and managers and how to implement them for ongoing leadership development \nWho Will Benefit: \nCEO’s\nCOO’s\nVP of Human Resources\nChief Learning Officer\nDirectors\nProject Managers\nOperation Managers and Supervisors\nTeam Leaders\nHuman Resources Professionals \nInstructor:\nMarcia Zidle\, MS\, NCC\, BCC is the CEO of Leaders At All Levels and a board certified executive coach based in Dallas Texas. She works with executives\, management teams and high potential professionals ON THE MOVE! They want to move up to the next level – ahead of their competition – into new areas – over and around obstacles – beyond business as usual – towards a sustainable future. \nShare This Article

SUMMARY:Risk Management Education Course | Medical Devices Industry 2018
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleEvent: Risk Management Education Course | Medical Devices Industry 2018 \nVenue: Courtyard By Marriott Dallas DFW Airport North/Irving\n4949 Regent Blvd\nDallas\, TX\, 75063 \nCourse “Risk Management in Medical Devices Industry” has been pre-approved by RAPS as eligible for up to 12 credits towards a participant’s RAC recertification upon full completion. \nOverview: \nGaps\, incorrect or incomplete implementation of software can delay or make the certification/approval of medical products impossible. Most activities cannot be retroactively performed since they are closely linked into the development life-cycle. Diligent\, complete and correct implementation of risk management from the start of product development is therefore imperative. This course will introduce all necessary steps to design\, implement and test critical medical device software in a regulatory compliant environment. Software risk management has to be embedded into the bigger scope of overall risk management. Therefore this course will additionally address the system level risk management and the resulting interfaces to software.\nTo comprehensively summarize all risk related activities and to demonstrate the safe properties of a device the ‘Safety Case’ or ‘Assurance Case’ document is a well-established method to collect all safety related information together in one place. This documentation will most likely become mandatory for all devices (currently only required for FDA infusion pump submissions). This course will introduce the basic concepts and content of safety assurance cases and will illustrate the usefulness for internal and external review of safety related information. \nWho will benefit: \nThe course will introduce the main elements of risk management with emphasis on software issues and the application of risk management principles and requirements to the medical device development cycle. Risk management has become the method of choice to ensure an effective and safety oriented device development. International consensus\, reflected in globally applicable standard requirements\, has led to risk management being a mandatory component of almost any activity in the medical device industry.\nThe course will emphasize the implementation of risk management into the development and maintenance process. It will use real-life examples and proven tips and tricks to make the application of risk management a practical and beneficial undertaking. This seminar will address the system level issues of risk management as well as the increasingly important software related issues of critical systems. It will help to comply with regulatory requirements with minimized overhead and resource burden. To make the combines effort to design\, implement and verify a safe device transparent the concept of an assurance case will be introduced.\nThe course is mainly based on international consensus requirements such as ISO14971 and IEC62304. \nFollowing personnel will benefit from the course:\n• Senior Quality Managers\n• Quality Professionals\n• Regulatory Professionals\n• Compliance Professionals\n• Project Managers\n• Design Engineers\n• Software Engineers\n• Process Owners\n• Quality Engineers\n• Quality Auditors\n• Medical Affairs\n• Legal Professionals \nAgenda: \nDay 1 Schedule \nLecture 1:\nIntroduction into Risk Management and Quality System Integration\n• Why risk management?\no Historical perspective\no International regulatory / statutory requirements\n• Risk Management Lifecycle and stakeholders\no Over-reaching concept\no Integration into ISO13485\no Lifecycle steps\n• Risk Management Benefits\no Liability issues\no Streamlining product development\no Improving product safety and quality\n• How to Implement Risk Management into ISO13485\no SOP framework\no Planning and execution\no Monitoring and control\n• Tips and tricks\nLecture 2:\nRisk Management to ISO 14971:2012\n• Risk Management Planning\n• Risk Management Life Cycle\n• Hazard Identification\no Hazard Domains\no Hazard Latency Issues\no Risk Rating Methods\n• Initial (unmitigated) Risk Assessment\n• Mitigation Strategies and Priorities\n• Mitigation Architectures\no Alarm Systems as Mitigations\no Risk Control Bundles\n• Post Mitigation Risk\n• Residual Risk\no Safety Integrity Levels\n• European special requirements (Z-Annexes)\n• Safety Requirements\n• Hazard Mitigation Traceability\n• Verification Planning\n• Architectures\, Redundancy and Diversity\n• Failure Mode and Effect Analysis\n• Tips and Tricks\n• Q&A \nDay 2 Schedule \nLecture 1:\nSoftware Risk Management (IEC62304 / FDA software reviewers’ guidance):\n• Critical Software Issues\n• Software Hazard Mitigation Strategies\n• Software Item\, Unit and System Definition\n• Software Failures as Hazard Sources\n• Software Requirements and Design Specification\n• Software Tools and Development Environment\n• Software Unit and Integration Testing\n• Real-Time System Challenges\n• Software Verification and Validation\n• Mitigation Traceability and Effectiveness\n• Software Maintenance and Configuration Control\n• Software Risk Management Process integration into ISO14971\n• Legacy Software issues\n• FDA documentation requirements\n• Upcoming changes in IEC62304:2014\n• Tips and Tricks\n• Q&A\nLecture 2:\nSafety / Assurance case\n• Safety classes\no Basic Safety / Environment\no Essential performance\n• Documentation of Basic Safety\no Electrical Safety\no Mechanical Safety\no EMC / RFI safety\no Safety margins\n• Documentation of essential performance\no What is essential performance?\no Device architectures and mitigation allocation\no Device specific mitigations\no Software mitigations\n• External safety\no User intervention and alarms\no Organizational measures\no Levels of protection concept\n• Verification of safety properties\no Type testing\no Sample testing\no Software verification testing\no Inspections\no Analyses\n• Assurance case vs. Risk Management Report\no General safety and hazard avoidance\no Device / application specific issues\n• Tips and Tricks\n• Q&A \nSpeaker\nMarkus Weber\nPrincipal Consultant\, System Safety Inc. \nMarkus Weber\, Principal Consultant with System Safety\, Inc.\, specializes in safety engineering and risk management for critical medical devices. SUMMARY:Onboarding New Hires: How to Get them Quickly up to Speed\, Engaged and Productive
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleThe TrainHR webinar is approved by HRCI and SHRM Recertification Provider \nOverview: You have made your decision about whom to hire. You have gotten them excited about their new job.You are excited about what they can bring to your team. Now what? If you are like most good organizations\, you are doing something more. The Aberdeen Group reported that 70 percent of all organizations currently deploy some sort of onboarding program with leaders entering new roles.\nWhile this is a good thing\, there is great variability in the focus\, depth and length of these programs. The most superficial tend to provide surface-level “meet and greets” and focus on initial paperwork and process knowledge. Others go deeper\,focusing on helping leaders learn to navigate the organization’s culture and understand the informal organization and key players. What does yours do? And do you even have an onboarding program? \nAlso\,don’t forget internal transfers.Though onboarding usually focuses on people new to an organization\, your current leaders entering new roles need assistance as well. Organizations are made up of many micro-cultures and the informal culture(how things really get done)is what typically drives an organization. Unwritten rules and politics\, if not openly discussed\,will create obstacles and slow execution. Remember\, you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Onboarding isn’t just about facts\,it’s about feeling\,too.Effective onboarding programs provide an experience which helps new hires and leaders affirm that they made the right career move. This webinar will cover what you need to ensure your organization is building a stable\,committed productive workforce from the start. \nWhy should you Attend: Is your hiring and onboarding process costing you unnecessarily? Did you know. \nNearly 1/3 of people are job searching within six months of employment\nAlmost 1/3 of externally hired executives miss expectations in the first two years\nWith 10-15% annual attrition\, companies lose about 60% of their entire talent base within four years \nIntroducing an onboarding program in to your hiring process can mean the difference between retaining top employees or watching them walk out the door after several months. Companies who implement an effective onboarding program during the first three months of the new hire employment experience\, will have 31% less turnover than those who don’t according to the Aberdeen Group. Onboarding is important because it introduces the employee to the company’s culture and expectations and gives the employee the vital training and information needed to succeed in their new position. Also a new hire’s compatibility or culture fit will likely be determined during the onboarding process. This can save the employer from a prolonged investment into the wrong person. \nA strategic onboarding plan can dramatically impact your business. Investing in an onboarding process will help reduce turnover and increase new hire effectiveness. An onboarding program isn’t just or more than a routine checklist\, it should be a comprehensive process that makes the new employee as well as the company confident they made the right choice and confident they can succeed in their new job. \nAreas Covered in the Session: \nLearn six mistakes to avoid in your new hire onboarding process\nReview best practices in executive onboarding accelerating executive success\nUnderstand three onboarding approaches to integrate the new hire into their job and organization\nReview an onboarding 90 day timeline with key tasks and tools to measure goals and milestones\nIdentify the top derailers for the critical stakeholders the manager\, the new leader\, human resources\nLearn from focus groups what new leaders consider the top onboarding issues and ways to ensure success. \nWho Will Benefit: \nCEO’s\nCOO’s\nVP of Human Resources\nChief Learning Officer\nDirectors\nProject Managers\nOperation Managers and Supervisors\nTeam Leaders\nStaff Managers and Supervisors \nInstructor:\nMarcia Zidle\, MS\, NCC\, BCC is the CEO of Leaders At All Levels and a board certified executive coach based in Dallas Texas. She works with executives\, management teams and high potential professionals ON THE MOVE! They want to move up to the next level – ahead of their competition – into new areas – over and around obstacles – beyond business as usual – towards a sustainable future. \nShare This Article

SUMMARY:Handling Anxiety in 90 Seconds
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleThe TrainHR webinar is approved by HRCI and SHRM Recertification Provider \nOverview: Jill Bolte Taylor\, Ph. D.\, experienced a stroke in her Left Brain and was forced to live through 4 hours of new experiences as she functioned with only her Right Brain intact. As a result of this experience she wrote a book\, “My Stroke of Insight”. This book should be required reading for anyone who interacts with people during their work day. She learned a lot from this experience. One learning is that Fear (anxiety) resides in the Left Brain. During her 4 hours\, she felt no fear\, only joy and exhilaration. Using this insight I have structured a quick exercise that switched your attention from your Left Brain to your Right Brain and thus erases fear and anxiety. You must try it to believe it.\nWhy should you Attend: It may be hard to believe\, but the reason most people do not handle anxiety well is simply ignorance of how to change a pattern. All the internal and external manifestations of anxiety show up and most of us simply wait for the stress situation to improve. \nThis response is outdated and even destructive to your health. SUMMARY:HR Auditing: Identifying and Managing Key Risks
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleEvent: HR Auditing: Identifying and Managing Key Risks \nCourtyard Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport\n2899 Jefferson Davis Hwy\nWashington\, DC\n22202 \nMessage Body:\nOverview: \nHR audits are designed to help your organization focus its attention on its human resource management practices\, policies\, procedures\, processes\, and outcomes by providing you with a structured and systematic series of questions about key compliance\, risk management\, internal auditing\, and human resource management issues. As a process\, HR audits are designed to help your organization identify potential and actual problem areas\, help assess the effectiveness of current HR management activities\, help assess weaknesses in HR internal control processes\, and help assess human capital strategic and compliance related risks. HR audits should additionally provide suggestions for corrective action.\nImportantly\, HR audits should consider human capital related risks and opportunities from an enterprise risk management (ERM) perspective. That is\, your HR Audits should take a holistic approach in assessing human capital risks and attempt to indicate the interrelationships and interactions between HR and other management and organizational issues.\nRecognizing that no two employers are alike and that the practices\, policies\, and processes that may be appropriate and effective for multinational corporations may not be appropriate for small and medium size companies or non-profits\, your HR audit activities should be designed to help your organization develop and tailor employment practices\, policies\, procedures\, and processes to meet your specific needs. Your HR audit activities should first provide your organization with the “right” questions to ask about various employment practices issues; then helps you determine the optimal answer for your organization.\nThe HR audit areas in this program provide you with the right questions to ask about your human resource management activities. More importantly\, it provides you with a positive method to identify and take corrective measures. \nWhy should you attend: \nNumerous studies have identified the growing critical importance of human capital. Human capital determines that long term success of an organization. Human capital-and its management– also represent significant liabilities. Managing this risk has become a critical activity for most organizations\, and one that represents important opportunities.\nHuman capital risks can significantly threaten an organization and are routinely recognized for their negative impact on an organization. At the same time these risks are noted as “one of the risks least effectively managed.” As noted\, they are identified as risks that when improperly managed create significant strategic\, financial\, operational\, and reputational risks. These risks threaten the management and sustainability of the organization and reduce it value.\nAs a result\, organizations are bringing advanced techniques to the management of their human resources–this includes the use of HR auditing techniques. No longer merely checklists of do’s and don’ts\, HR audits have become a continuous\, sustainable\, comprehensive audit activity that assesses the governance\, compliance\, and management of the organization’s human resources management practices\, liabilities\, and potential opportunities. HR audits increasing provide assurance that risks are properly identified and managed\, that HR activities are aligned with organizational objectives\, and that compliance and governance requirements are being met.\nMany of our current management models were based on manufacturing – turning materials into products to sell. The environments were commonly production lines with expensive machinery and individuals had to be “at work” to produce.\nThis workshop reviews the current use of HR audits\, reviews HR audit techniques\, and discusses how HR Audits can be used to help the organization reduce risks and seize potential opportunities. \nWho Will Benefit: \nHR Professionals\nCFOs\nInternal Auditors\nExternal Auditors\nRisk Managers\nCompliance Officers\nCOOs \nAgenda: \nDay 1 Schedule \nLecture 1: Introduction to HR Audits\nBackground of HR audits\nEvolution of HR audits\nDeveloping an HR audit plan\nIdentifying key HR audit issues\nExercise: Pre-HR Audit Questionnaire\nLecture 2: Assessing Human Capital Risks\nDiscussion of risk management issues\nDetermining human capital risks\nDeveloping Key Risk Indicators (KRIs)\nDiscussion of human capital risk mitigation and risk appetite\nExercise: The Employment Practices Liability Risk Assessment Tool\nExercise: Mapping capital human risks\nLecture 3: Developing HR Metrics\nDiscussion of HR metrics\nDetermining relevant human capital measures\nDeveloping Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)\nDeveloping HR audit dashboard\nLecture 4: HR Audit Model\nDiscussion of the critical components of an HR audit\nDiscussion of internal controls\nDiscussion of internal audit activities\nExercise: The HR Audit Worksheet \nDay 2 Schedule \nLecture 1: Assessing Strategic Alignment\nAssessing of the value of human capital\nAssessing your employment brand\nAssessing work force needs\nAssessing employee commitment and engagement\nDiscussion of employee surveys to validate audit findings\nExercise: Mapping employee commitment \nLecture 2: Assessing HR Management Related Documents\nAssessing employment posters and notices\nAssessing job descriptions\nAssessing employee application and other hiring forms\nAssessing employee files\nDiscussion of employee handbooks\nExercise: Review Survey Report on Employee Handbook Policies and Practices\nLecture 3: Assessing HR Management Processes and Practices\nAssessing the recruitment\, selection and hiring process\nAssessing performance management\nAssessing employee relations\nAssessing the discipline and termination process\nDiscussion of Technology\nLecture 4: Practical Applications of HR Audits\nIndentifying to HR audit stakeholders\nDiscussion of HR audits for vendors\, suppliers\, and contractors\nDiscussion of HR audits in mergers and acquisitions\nDiscussion reporting and implementing HR audit results \nSpeaker:\nRonald L. SUMMARY:Resolving Cancer Related Cognitive Impairment and Cancer Related Fatigue: The 2 Most Common and Persistent Complaints of Long Term Cancer Survivors
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleNaturopathic Webinar 17\n \n\n\nResolving Cancer Related Cognitive Impairment \nand Cancer Related Fatigue:\n\n\nThe Two Most Common and Persistent Complaints of \nLong Term Cancer Survivors\n\n\n \n\nPart 1 of 2: \n\n\n\nCancer Related Cognitive Impairment\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, January 30\, 2017\n6:30 – 8:30pm\n\n\n\n2 CEs | 2 CEs for California LAc\n\n\n$75 members  |  $95 non-members\n\nwith Dr. Nalini Chilkov\, LAc\, OMD\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Overview\n\nWith continued improvements in disease-free survival after cancer treatment\, there are increasing numbers of cancer survivors\, currently over 15 million in the US alone with projections for 19 million by 2024 and 26 million by 2040. During the treatment phase\, over 75% of all adult patients complain of fatigue and cognitive impairment. Even 20 years after treatment\, many adult cancer survivors still suffer from persistent fatigue\, depressive symptoms\, poor memory\, poor attention\, difficulty with multitasking\, and a decrease in executive functions. \nCancer related cognitive impairment may be severe\, persistent\, and more disruptive than pain and may not resolve with tumor control or treatment cessation. A highly individualized health-focused integrative approach is required to identify functional factors and select appropriate interventions for resolution. \nChemotherapy\, radiotherapy\, hormonal\, and biotherapies\, in addition to cancer biology itself are associated with increases in inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species in the brain.  Immune cells respond to inflammation traverse the blood-brain barrier and increase local inflammation in the brain\, affecting emotional and cognitive function. These patients often show loss of grey and white matter and functional and structural changes that resemble accelerated brain aging. In addition to neuro-inflammation and neurotoxicity\, cancer survivors can also experience myelosuppression\, hepatotoxicity\, nephrotoxicity\, chronic pain\, microbiome \, endocrine\, and sleep disruption. \nInterventions including natural compounds\, acupuncture\, functional foods\, diet and lifestyle modifications\, and brain rehabilitation therapies can be used to prevent damage and restore function and quality of life to these patients allowing them to return to full and productive lives after treatment. \nAttend this presentation to confidently:\n \n1. Understand & Identify the long-term sequela of cancer and cancer treatment related cognitive impairment and accelerated brain aging in cancer patients and survivors. \n2. Understand & Identify potential pathophysiologic mechanisms of cancer and cancer treatment related cognitive impairment and accelerated brain aging in cancer patients and survivors. \n3. Be able to identify and use nutriceuticals\, phytochemicals\, functional foods\, lifestyle interventions and integrative therapies to prevent damage and restore normal function to cancer patients and survivors suffering from long term cognitive impairment and accelerated brain aging effects of cancer and cancer treatments. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\nNaturopathic Webinar Directions\n1.
