SUMMARY:How to Attain Perfect Well-being with Flower Essences
DESCRIPTION:Share This ArticleThis seminar delves into the conscious wisdom of Nature. It instructs students in a yogic approach to flower essence assessment\, based on stimulating the client’s existing positive qualities. We will focus on techniques to help our problems virtually shrink in size in relation to our inner growth; on our ability to find solutions where none previously seemed accessible through the correct selection of flower essence regimes; and how to find more easily and quickly the happiness that all human beings seek. We will use introspective exercises as well as partner and group work as tools. We will also delve into botanical information and folklore related to each of the 20 Spirit-in-Nature Essences. The instructor also uses music – guitar and vocals – to convey the messages of these essences. \nAfter completion of this seminar students will be able to: \nDe-mystify flower essences as a holistic modality.\nMake these essences their own – in other words\, to feel comfortable using them.\nExperientially have the tools to add flower essences to their existing supplements or therapies for the benefit of their clients.\nHave a solid working understanding of the philosophy of flower essences.\nHave a direct experience that words cannot give: a direct experience and an inner knowing of these flower essences.\nInitiate the process of beginning to “just know” which flower essences are the “best” ones for their clients\, and in which sequential order to recommend them. This is a pivotal issue among students and practitioners alike.\nView instructor video: https://youtu.be/oz1rzbvfHH8 \nCourse prerequisite: Pre-reading of: “The Essential Flower Essence Handbook.” *This textbook is not included in the price of the course.\nLila’s book may be available for purchase at the Bastyr Book store or Amazon.\nPlease bring a notebook.\nPlease wear comfortable clothing\, bring a back pillow if needed.\nPlease Bring: Personal water bottle (filtered water dispensers available on campus to refill).\nLocation: Bastyr University Kenmore Campus\, room #133. \nBastyr University is housed in an older facility with fluctuating interior temperatures; it is advisable to wear layers. \nAlso\, Bastyr is a “fragrance-free” campus. \nComing from out of town? SUMMARY:Naturopathic Webinar 15: How Biography Becomes Biology: Childhood Trauma and Obesity & IBS in Adulthood
DESCRIPTION:Share This Article\nNaturopathic Webinar 15\nHow Biography Becomes Biology:\nChildhood Trauma and Obesity & IBS in Adulthood\nwith Dr. Paul Epstein\, ND\n\nTUESDAY\, November 14\, 2017: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm\n2.5 CEs (pending approval by OBNM and The California Acupuncture Board)\n*Please note this webinar is pending approval for GENERAL CEs ONLY. No pharmacy CEs. \n2.5 CEs for CA acupuncturists (pending) \nREGISTER NOW * $75 members  |  $95 non-members \nCategory 1 TM Credits\nCE Provider #805\n310 670 8100\nThis course is pending approval by The California Acupuncture Board for 2.5 hours of continuing education\nThis course will be available as a self study after the date of the live webinar.\n*Refunds not available \n\nCourse Overview\nDis-ease tells a story\, not just of the cells (biology) but of the self (biography).  Clinicians need to listen to\, and integrate\, both stories in clinical care. Stress is a contributing factor in illness. The latest research is confirming and expanding on this idea in ways that can\, and should\, revolutionize our treatment approach. Research into the impact of childhood trauma on adult disease reveals a deeper relationship than previously recognized between adverse childhood events\, stress and trauma and chronic diseases in adulthood.  Biography can and does influence our biology. There is a growing realization of importance of effectively and skillfully integrating this knowledge into the practice of medicine. Dr. Paul Epstein will explain the theories and current research regarding how biography becomes biology\, describe a practical process for “connecting the cell and the self” in clinical practice and tie this information to the specific issues of obesity and IBS. The essence of this presentation is that in a clinician’s approach to treatment\, there is a need to heal the biography and cure the biology – emphasizing that it is not either/or\, but both.  In fact\, when the emphasis is on healing the biography\, often a clinician can unlock the cure (by finding a missing puzzle piece) for the biology. \nAttend this presentation to confidently: \n\nGain a working knowledge of the latest research into the impact of stress (and our response to it) in health and disease.\nGain a working knowledge of the theory\, latest research and available resources on the impact of childhood trauma in adult disease\, including an understanding of what qualifies as “trauma.”\nUnderstand how working with stress and trauma fits into the spectrum of an integrative\, whole-person approach to treating obesity\, IBS and other digestive system/diet related conditions.\nLearn practical therapeutic techniques for incorporating the treatment of stress and childhood trauma\, and its impact\, in clinical treatment.\nDefine and explore “narrative medicine” as a modality for healing the patient’s biography (which will add missing pieces to their ‘chronic disease puzzle’) to support curing their biology.\nClarify the difference between acknowledging the role of biography in the disease process VS blaming the patient for creating their illness. I will clearly explain how and why acknowledging and exploring a patient’s biography as part of an integrative approach to treating chronic disease is an empowering and liberating experience that enhances treatment effectiveness.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA pioneer and leading voice in Mind-Body Integrative Medicine\, Paul Epstein\, ND has persistently been leading the charge to bring awareness to the mind-body connection – and its extraordinary role in healing – for over 30 years. Dr. Epstein graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) in 1984. His post-graduate residency program focused on preventive medicine and lifestyle counseling.  He was the Co-founder and Co-director of the Israel Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Israel. In his practice\, Dr. Epstein integrates naturopathic medicine with life-changing mind-body therapies.  He has a long history of successfully treating patients with chronic diseases and serious health challenges. In addition to his private practice\, Dr. Epstein travels worldwide\, lecturing and presenting workshops. He is a sought-after presenter for all of the major Naturopathic and Holistic Medicine organizations throughout the US and Canada and has lectured and taught workshops for many Naturopathic colleges and universities. Dr. Epstein is on the faculty of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM)\, and teaches in their Inter-professional Fellowship in Integrative Health and Medicine. He is the author of “Happiness Through Meditation.”\n\n\n\n\nShare This Article

For this reason\, it is important that NDs and other IM providers have their own stellar critical evaluation of the literature skills. It is important for NDs to understand where to find trusted resources and how to assess bias\, including identifying industry sponsorship and blinding issues. In addition\, it is extremely important to understand clinical versus statistical significant and assess these accordingly. At the end of the webinar\, participants will better understand how to apply research findings to their patients.\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter the presentation\, participants will be able to confidently:\n\n1. Understand the original definition of evidence-based medicine\n2. Appreciate the change in attitudes towards EBM that is occurring within the naturopathic profession\n3. Identify point-of-care resources for high quality evidence\n4. Discover risk of bias in randomized controlled trials as it relates to unmasking and industry sponsorship\n5.
