First accredited school for naturopathic medicine in the state opens in San Diego on September 14, 2012
Kenmore, Wash. (September 5, 2012) — Save the date and mark your calendars for the grand opening of the Bastyr University California campus, the state’s first and only regionally and professionally accredited school for naturopathic medicine.
“We could not be more excited to become the newest member of California’s natural and integrative medical community and are already working closely with our San Diego neighbors to provide the best medical education and training possible,” said Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, PhD.
Nearly 50 naturopathic doctoral (ND) students will make up the inaugural class, which surpassed the University’s projections.
“We received a large number of applications from prospective students interested in studying at Bastyr University California. This enthusiasm is a strong indicator of the need for a science-based naturopathic institution like ours in the area,” Church said.
Bastyr University California Vice President Moira Fitzpatrick, PhD, ND, FICPP, CHT, added: “We look forward to strengthening the connection between the allopathic and integrative medicine community. Together we can be a powerful force in bringing quality, preventive and acute care to people in San Diego and in other parts of the world.”
The grand opening celebration begins Friday September 14 at 1 p.m. and is open to the public. The emcee will be former KOMO4-TV (ABC, Seattle) and current KGTV-10 (ABC, San Diego) News and Weather Anchor Robert Santos. Following the program, the festivities will continue with music, food and tours of the building for anyone interested in learning more about the University or the campus.
