Environmental Medicine: Focus on Men’s Health and Longevity

Naturopathic News, Press Release

Be part of a team of healthcare providers leading the charge to optimize men’s health and promote longevity in the cluster of chemical exposures and endocrine disruptors

AUGUST 26 & 27, 2017

It is clear that exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have detrimental effects on reproductive health. Exposure to EDCs can lead to epigenetic changes, impaired spermatogenesis, and male infertility. Vinclozolin, a fungicide used on fruits, vegetables, turf grass, and ornamental plants, is a known antiandrogenic endocrine disruptor. Spermatogenic defects, prostate disease, kidney disease, and cancer are seen in rodents with exposure to vinclozolin. There may be similar effects in human males. EDCs are also associated with obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors.

Researchers have demonstrated eating produce containing higher quantities of pesticide residue appears to be associated with lower sperm counts. Phthalates have been shown to be an antiandrogen leading to significant changes in genital measurements in male infants with varying phthalate exposure. Studies have indicated paternal exposure to phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA) is associated with changes to the sex ratio with excess female births.

As a result, PME has brought together expert faculty to address these concerns in order to improve patient outcomes. We will review the research and provide strategies to address concerns of endocrine disruption in men. We invite medical doctors, osteopathic doctors, naturopathic doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, functional medicine healthcare practitioners and and integrative medical providers to join us.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

Recognize sources and targets of environmental metabolic disruptors.
Discuss the role of environmental chemical obesogens and their impact on obesity.
Describe the role of environmental influences and its relationship to sleep adequacy.
Recite environmental toxicants and the risk of cardiometabolic disorders.
Implement targeted nutritional and botanical supplementation for cardiometabolic health and longevity.
Develop strategies to address environmental disruption of metabolism.
Utilize immunotherapy to target environmental immune distractors.

REGISTRATION FEES

Enrollment for the 2-day event includes:
Digital Copy of Lecture Slides, AM & PM breaks, Lunch, and Certificate of Completion
