According to a study out of the University of Eastern Finland and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, shows that high serum omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid concentrations are linked to a significantly reduced risk of type-2 diabetes.
Researchers looked at the serum fatty acid concentrations of 2,189 men aged between 42 and 60 years old who had no baseline type-2 diabetes diagnosis. During the follow-up period of 19 years, 417 men were diagnosed with type-2 diabetes.
One of the results were that high serum omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid concentrations were associated with a 46 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes during the follow-up.
