CAND shares recent passing of a beloved naturopathic doctor, friend and colleague

With great sadness the CAND alerts members of the passing of Dr. Mubina Jiwa, ND (Ontario). Dr. Jiwa was a long-standing member and supporter of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors and we wish to extend our condolences and kind thoughts to Mubina’s family, friends and colleagues.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 8:45 am, at the Scarborough Ismaili Jamatkhana. 695 Middlefield Rd, Scarborough, ON, M1V 5B8. Earlier today, the CAND received the following message from Dr. Jiwa’s colleague, Dr. Joanna Sparrow, ND.

Sadly, Dr. Mubina Jiwa, ND passed away on Wednesday, October 14th after a brave and courageous fight with ovarian cancer. She was a dedicated naturopath and teacher, and a devoted mother, wife, daughter, granddaughter and friend.

Mubina was a highly accomplished ND and a true asset to our profession. She started her career with a residency at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic and went on to build a successful practice in downtown Toronto.

She was a familiar face at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine for many years, where she continued on as a faculty member and teaching assistant for several courses. She was friendly and outgoing, and loved having the opportunity to work with both students and colleagues. In 2013, Mubina was awarded the prestigious Leader Pin from Naturopathic Doctors Ontario (NDO) for the leadership and expertise she had contributed to the naturopathic profession.

Mubina became the chief ND at Gemoscan Canada, Inc. She appeared frequently on radio and television, including spots on CityTV’s Breakfast Television, CP24, Global News, CBC, and perhaps most memorably as a regular guest on CTV’s Marilyn Denis Show and Chum FM. She has also contributed to many publications including Zoomer and Chatelaine.

Through her media presence she succeeded in bringing Naturopathic Medicine into the public eye and spotlight, in her own charismatic and current way. She lived her life passionately and built countless meaningful relationships and was deeply loved by so many. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, students, patients and the numerous homes she reached via radio and television.
