“Mind Diet” Beneficial For Alzheimer’s

Naturopathic News

Researchers out of Rush University Medical Center created a diet for patients to follow called the “MIND diet.” It has been shown to lower risk of the disease by as much as 53 percent in some cases, and also has shown good compliance rates.

The MIND diet stands for Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay, and incorporates a few diets shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular conditions and events as well as protecting against dementia. This diet has 15 components incorporating various diet guidelines, while also following nutrients shown to be preventative against dementia.

Although this preliminary research shows that it has been associated with a reduction in the risk of Alzheimer’s, there is still a need to demonstrate cause-and-effect through further investigation. There needs to be more investigation into specific dietary guidelines in order to summarize more effectively the various diets used to guide this research.
