San Diego is the choice for University’s second campus

Kenmore, Wash. (August 12, 2011) – Bastyr University announced today its new campus will be located in San Diego, CA, with plans for the first class to begin in Fall 2012.”We are thrilled to secure a location for our Southern California campus,” said Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, PhD. “To become the first regionally accredited naturopathic medical institution in California is a tremendous honor and we look forward to providing the same quality education as our Kenmore, Washington, campus does. Now students in California and throughout the southwest will not have to travel as far to receive a degree from the best University for natural medicine in the United States.”

After many months of scouting, planning and research, the news comes as a welcome step forward in the future for Bastyr University. San Diego was selected because of its strategic proximity to a significant number of prospective students, faculty and patients in Southern California who are interested in the natural health arts and sciences. The Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree program will be offered when the school first opens, with other degree programs expected to be offered in the future.

“San Diego is a great choice, given the medical and academic resources in the area,” said Bastyr University Board Chair Jon Flora. “Bastyr’s Board of Trustees is excited about the opportunity to open a California campus and believe that this outcome is a perfect solution for us. We extend our gratitude to everyone in the San Diego area who is helping Bastyr University move this from concept to an exciting reality. ”

“We are very pleased that Bastyr University has chosen to come to California and work with us,” added California Naturopathic Doctors Association (CNDA) President Simon Barker, ND. “This is something we in California and CNDA have wanted for a long time. Not only does it provide a source of hope and pride for us, it also provides a source of training for tomorrow’s primary care doctors in California.”

Bastyr University’s California campus will be located at 4106 Sorrento Valley Boulevard in the heart of San Diego’s life sciences cluster, and approximately 14 miles north of downtown San Diego via I-5. It is within walking distance of public transportation, and within a short drive of the University of California San Diego, Scripps Hospital and the VA Hospital.
