August 5, 2015 @ 8:00 am - August 8, 2015 @ 5:00 pm
AANP’s 30th Anniversary Conference Heads to California’s Bay Area
The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians will host the largest gathering of licensed naturopathic physicians at the Oakland Marriott August 5-8, 2015, in Oakland, CA. With Dr. Tori Hudson leading the development of the 2015 educational program, it promises to be filled with fresh and useful content. (There may even be a surprise or two!)
Why Oakland? It’s Tasty, Green and Revolutionary
Oakland, CA, is a fantastic place to host the 30th annual naturopathic family reunion. The city has undergone a transformation over the last several years. New, sophisticated restaurants and bars along with the historic Fox Theatre helped Oakland reach #5 on a New York Times list of the top 45 places to visit in the world. Yahoo! boasts that Oakland is underrated, intriguing and a must-visit U.S. city. And, Forbes voted Oakland as the 12th coolest American city in 2014.
The Bright Side of the Bay (Oakland’s nickname because of its sunny skies and year-round moderate climate) is home to a beautiful, lush redwood forest and many green spaces. However, parks are not the only reason the city is considered green. “Much of Oakland’s food is grown locally – which reduces waste and carbon emissions that other cities use in order to get their food from some other location. New building developments in Oakland meet high green standards and Oakland is currently home of the nation’s cleanest, freshest tap water” (from Sheknows.com and also noted by the Mother Nature Network). Oakland’s bicycling rate has risen to 7th in the nation and it is 6th among the 51 largest US cities for percentage of residents that bicycle to work according to the Alliance for Biking and Walking.
Oakland, and California’s East Bay, has a rich revoluntionary history that dates back to the 1960s and earlier. The city continues to make strides towards equality. It is considered one of the most LGBT-freindly cities in the country; it has the 2nd highest number of women working in the tech sector nationwide; it is one of America’s best cities for women; and it has been considered a mecca for natural health practitioners.
We are excited to visit Oakland in 2015 and to explore all the city has to offer. We cannot wait to see you on The Bright Side of the Bay!
