The Passing of Dr. R. Anton Ingard, DC, ND

Naturopathic News

It is with sadness that we inform of the passing of Dr. R. Anton Ingard, DC, ND. Anton was incredibly passionate about the naturopathic profession and generously shared his deep practice experience with NDs of all generations. Anton’s love for life – and laughter – were contagious and would always brighten any naturopathic gathering. Although he will be sorely missed, his memory will be cherished by the great many people whose lives Anton touched.

The following are excerpts – in Dr. Ingard’s own words – from the 2009 book entitled, The History of Naturopathic Medicine – A Canadian Perspective
I graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1967 with DC and DT qualifications. Philosophically when we graduated we had an image of holistic chiropractic being a viable alternative to standard allopathic medical practice. Many graduates from the 50s and early 60s had both chiropractic and naturopathic diplomas. It was a time of great change in the profession.
My first practice was in Timmins with branch offices in Iroquois Falls and Matheson. In the north the demand for the alternatives that a holistic approach provided, were high.
By 1975 Dr. Ingard had moved to Orillia and in 1981, he graduated from the then-Ontario College of Naturopathic Medicine as part of the first grad class.

I consider my training in naturopathic practice started at CMCC; was completed at OCNM; led to some 40 years to date providing an integrated approach to naturopathic health care in (Ontario).
Celebration of Life will be held for Anton on Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at:
Memorials or donations can be made in Dr. Ingard’s name to the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
