Alan Simon, R Ph to present Adverse Effects: Hormone Replacement Therapy and Oral Contraceptive Medications
April 19, 2012
GREEN BAY, WI (March 22, 2012) – On Thursday, April 19th, through an exclusive webinar sponsored by Integrative Therapeutics, registered pharmacist, Alan Simon, will discuss how common birth control and hormone therapy prescriptions have been shown to affect nutrient status.
During this webinar, Simon will review extensive evidence of known interactions from the peer-reviewed medical literature, and present nutritional interventions and precautions for optimal patient care.
According to IMS National Sales Perspectives™ from IMS Health, the number of prescriptions dispensed has declined each year from 2006 through 2010 for each of the four types of commercial HT products tracked: estrogens, progestogens, estrogen-progestogen combinations, and androgen-estrogen combinations. However, in 2010, collective U.S. sales of these products at even at wholesale prices were still at astoundingly high levels:
- Estrogens—$1.576 billion, up from $1.542 billion in 2009
- Progestogens—$243 million, up from $229 million in 2009
- Estrogen-progestogen combinations—$399 million, up from $394 million in 2009
“So many women take a form of hormone therapy, either as an effective form of contraception, or for treatment of health issues and a high percentage of these women are not aware of the adverse side effects this may cause”, Simon stated. “This webinar is meant to inform practitioners of the various adverse effects that certain birth control and other hormone replacement therapies may have so they can better inform and care for their patients.”
Alan Simon earned his degree in Pharmacy from Butler University in Indianapolis. A practicing registered pharmacist for 34 years, he has his own consultation practice specializing in integrative natural medicine, clinical nutrition, herb and drug interactions and drug-induced nutrient depletions. Simon has certifications from the National Institute of Pharmacist Care Outcomes in Diabetes Care and Management and Osteoporosis Care.
The webinar will be held on April 19th2012 at 7:00 pm CST.
