John Bastyr Helping Hands Food Drive
July 16, 2012 - July 20, 2012
Bastyr University is working with Hopelink’s “End Summer Hunger” campaign to collect food for needy local families. The “John Bastyr Helping Hands Food Drive” will take place from July 16-20, 2012, at both the University’s Kenmore campus and its teaching clinic, Bastyr Center for Natural Health, in Seattle.
“Our namesake, Dr. John Bastyr, set an incredible example of compassion, generosity and service to the local community,” said Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, PhD. “This food drive is a wonderful way to honor of his legacy of caring while providing much needed relief for many King County children and their families.”
Summer is traditionally a slow time for food bank donations, while the need among children becomes especially great as school lunch programs cease during the summer months. That’s why throughout the week of July 16-20, donation stations will be available at both the campus and clinic for those who would like to bring in healthy non-perishable items such as:
- Prepared meals (such as canned soups and stews)
- Canned meats and nuts
- Whole grain or gluten-free cereal, pasta, rice or flour
- Dried beans and peas
- Natural peanut butter
- Organic fruit (canned or fresh)
- Organic vegetables (canned or fresh)
- Organic shelf-stable milk or baby formula
- Olive or healthy cooking oils
- Shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, laundry detergent, diapers, baby wipes
All donations will go directly to Hopelink’s “End Summer Hunger” campaign. Monetary donations can also be made online at: www.hope-link.org.
