The Art & Science of Spagyric Medicine: From Paracelsus to Present

January 15, 2011

  • Learn this nearly forgotten, ancient, alchemical process of herbal preparation
  • Observe the creation of spagyric herbal medicines
  • Compare spagyrics to other herbal preparations

Paracelsus was an alchemical genius of the 15th century who developed a concept of making effective herbal remedies by separating the herb into elemental parts and bringing the herb back together. Called the spagyric process, this ancient, alchemical method has been mostly forgotten by the herbal and naturopathic communities. Glen Nagel, ND will present an overview of the history, philosophy and differentiation of clinical activity of the spagyric method and compare and contrast this to other forms of herbal products. He will then create actual spagyric remedies by extracting fresh plant into the three elements:
Salt, Sulphur and Mercury. These elements will be fermented and distilled then calcinated to ash and recombined. This class will give attendees an historical and practical knowledge of the role of spagyric medicine in naturopathic practice and the clinical use of spagyric medicines.

Attend this class in person in Room 207 (the Herb Room) at NCNM, 049 SW Porter St, Portland, Oregon OR via Live Webinar! Your choice!
