Messages From the Body: A Guide to the Energetics of Health
Messages From the Body: A Guide to the Energetics of Health is a compendium to Dr Iva Lloyd’s The Energetics of Health, reviewed in a previous issue of NDNR. Messages From the Body provides practitioners with a guide for interpreting energetic patterns of health and disease: “Interpreting the energetic of human beings is a complex task. It involves having an understanding of energy, a desire to look at the whole person, knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology and the time to slow down the process so that you can reflect and relate the energetic of a person’s life to their health” (p 1).
Dr Lloyd’s objectives in Messages From the Body are to provide a guide for interpreting the energetic patterns of health and of disease. The book offers an outline for the evaluation and exploration of health and disease based on energetic models and principles derived from naturopathic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and polarity therapy. Drawing from these forms of healing is a common thread based on the knowledge that the body is a commonsense energetic being and that all aspects of the body are connected to each other and to their environment.
Dr Lloyd writes: “The human body is simply a large collection of energetic molecules organized and crystallized in a pattern. The physical body has a visible form yet it is not permanent. It is constantly shifting, changing, responding to, receiving and releasing energy” (p 2). By fashioning the purpose of the text around the energy of health and the harmonious disruptions that create disease, Dr Lloyd elucidates the 2 naturopathic principles of tolle totum and vis mediatrix naturae for those who are interested in understanding more about the energetics of the human body.
Health and disease are conditions of the whole being, a whole involving the complex interaction of many elements. The harmonious processes of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the human body are vital to the prevention of and recovery from disease or disharmony.
