Dr. Mitchell Bebel Stargrove Receives NUNM and OANP 2017 Living Legend Award

Mitchell Bebel Stargrove, ND, LAc was honored with the 2017 Living Legend award by the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) and the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OANP) at the banquet  held on Dec. 2 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront Hotel.

 

NUNM and the OANP selected Dr. Stargrove to be honored with the naturopathic medicine’s prestigious Living Legend award for his demonstrated leadership, commitment to excellence and outstanding contributions to the advancement of natural medicine in the state of Oregon.

In addition to his work as an acupuncturist and naturopathic physician, Stargrove, a 1988 NUNM graduate, and faculty member (1990-1993), is a longtime member of the OANP and has taught many classes on behalf of the association. Since 1990, he has taught History of Medicine at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, and is a Senior Fellow of the Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine at the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, CT.

Dr. Stargrove has a long list of accomplishments. In addition to teaching and clinical practice, Stargrove is the editor and co-author of Herb, Nutrient, and Drug Interactions: Clinical Implications and Therapeutic Strategies (MosbyElsevier 2008). He coordinated development of, and compiled the acupuncture section for, the Integrative BodyMind Information System (IBIS), the pioneering multidisciplinary electronic encyclopedia for practitioners of integrative medicine and natural therapeutics. In addition, he is Chief Medical Officer of MedicineWorks.com, a division of Health Resources Unlimited, Inc., as well as a founder and board member of the Alchemical Medicine Research and Teaching Association (AMR’TA). He is the lead history editor of and a contributing author to the Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine text (Elsevier, in press).

In August 2012, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians presented him with the Vis award in recognition of his activities as a “naturopathic physician who represents the healing power of nature as demonstrated through work, life and community service.” He teaches at Naturopathic Student Gatherings regularly and is one of the early leaders in our profession forging healthy relationships with Allopathic Medical Schools.

OANP Board President Carrie Baldwin-Sayre acknowledged Dr. Stargrove’s years of service to naturopathic medicine.
