The latest rage in renewable energy is the use of vegetable oil to replace diesel oil. The oil can be negotiated from local restaurants, and conversion kits can be purchased on the Internet and installed at home or by a local garage. One of our own, Christopher Lopisto, ND, recently converted a 1983 Mercedes Benz and drove it from Colorado to the AANP convention in Arizona. According to Lopisto, the car runs more smoothly on vegetable oil, and many restaurants are eager to get rid of a waste they usually have to pay to have hauled off.
Believe it or not, the diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil so other oils such as corn, soy and safflower easily replace common diesel. The benefits to the environment are: Veggie oils burn 80% cleaner than petroleum, have NO fine particulates (soot) as combustion products, and keep a waste product out of the landfill.
School buses running on veggie oil reduce the presence of fine particulates that can cause asthma in school children. For additional information: “From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank: The Complete Guide to Using Vegtable Oil as an Alternative Fuel,” by Joshua Tickell. Source: MK, CL
